The Association of Italian Cancer Registries (AIRT) was established in Florence in 1997 for the purpose of coordinating the cancer registries then active in Italy.
The linkage created by the association supported the research, editorial output and methodological development of the various registries. The association was connected with equivalent bodies in other countries at European and global levels.
In 2006, at its tenth annual congress, the association changed its name and was thereafter called AIRTUM.
